Jaguar Unveils New Electric SUV The I-Pace! With the popularity of Tesla and the release of the fuel-cell Mirai by Toyota and the Clarity by Honda, more and more automakers are looking to electric and alternative fuel as the savior for the automotive industry and the world. We’ve shared speculation about a model called the E-Pace and have talked about the plan Jaguar has for EV moving forward, but now we are excited to share that Jaguar has unveiled the I-Pace.
“I was determined from the very beginning of the project to create a design that reflected the mechanics of the car,” Jaguar design director Ian Callum said in a statement.
The 400 horsepower all-electric concept SUV was revealed on Monday, ahead of the Los Angeles Motor Show. The I-Pace will be Jaguar’s first ever electric vehicle and is expected to be available in 2018. The all-wheel-drive crossover SUV is expected to have an EPA-estimated driving range of 220 miles. A computer drawn virtual reality presentation of the vehicle was shown to reporters in London and Los Angeles, while those in Los Angeles also got the view the actual concept.
The I-Pace features a cab-forward design with a short hood, allowing for better aerodynamics and more interior space. The vehicle’s wheels are farther out which was needed to fit the car’s large, flat battery pack, but it also helps with driving performance.
